About the Department

This department began its educational activities concurrently with the establishment of the University of Tehran. It currently admits students at the undergraduate level in two specializations: "Russian Language and Literature" and "Russian Translation." Starting in 2001, the department also began admitting students at the Master's level in two specializations: "Language Teaching" and "Russian Language and Literature." For the first time in Iran, the "Russian Language Teaching" program at the doctoral level has been accepting students since 2008.

Program Introduction

Given the expanding relations between the two countries (the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation) in various scientific, economic, and cultural fields, as well as the richness of the Russian language and literature and the global significance of Russian linguistic theoretical schools, the necessity of establishing Russian language programs at the undergraduate, Master's, and doctoral levels with specializations in translation, literature, and language teaching has become increasingly evident.

The goal of establishing this department is to train qualified individuals to teach the Russian language and literature in universities and higher education institutions, to meet societal needs for specialized human resources in researching Russian language and educational issues, translating various Russian texts into Persian and vice versa, and more. In this program, students master the fundamentals of the Russian language and literature and acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge related to teaching Russian, including various topics in the field of Russian linguistics, which are in some way connected to the domain of Russian language teaching.
