The specialized workshop "The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Research", focusing on "Searching for Reputable Journals and Collecting and Summarizing Scientific Articles with the Help of AI", was held for graduate students and alumni of the University of Tehran on Tuesday, April 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures. The workshop aimed to familiarize researchers with methods of applying AI tools in the research and academic writing process.

The workshop instructor, Pouya Mahmoudi, a Ph.D. student in Applied Linguistics at the University of Tehran, discussed the role of artificial intelligence technologies in enhancing the quality and speed of academic research. At the beginning of the session, he highlighted the rapid growth of AI-based tools in academic and research contexts, emphasizing that today’s researchers need to learn how to use these tools consciously and purposefully to increase accuracy, save time, and improve the structure and quality of their research. The workshop content was then presented in two main sections:

1. Searching and Integrating Scientific Sources:

In this section, participants became familiar with methods for searching and identifying reputable scientific journals, collecting resources relevant to their research topics, and integrating research findings using AI-based systems. The instructor introduced examples of intelligent tools for searching and analyzing scientific texts and explained how to use them practically for selecting sources and preparing the literature review.

2. Interacting with Documents and Summarizing Articles:

The second part of the workshop focused on methods for working with scientific texts and automatically summarizing articles. Participants were introduced to several text-mining tools for extracting key points, analyzing content, and creating accurate and citable summaries. The session also covered topics such as scientific editing and management using AI, as well as effectively presenting research findings. The instructor, while demonstrating practical examples, emphasized the importance of responsible and ethical use of AI tools in academic writing and research presentation.

The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, during which participants received practical guidance on using AI tools in their research projects. Attendees appreciated the practical approach of the course and expressed interest in attending advanced workshops on AI and research training. In this context, the second session of the workshop, titled “The Applications of AI Prompt Engineering in Research with Examples,” was held on Thursday, May 5, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Ghadir Hall of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Tehran.
