On December 10, 2024, the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Tehran, hosted a workshop titled “R Programming Language: Application to Data Analysis.” The workshop was conducted by Mohammad Reza Jafari, an MA graduate in English Language Teaching at the University of Tehran.

The workshop ran from 8 AM to 2 PM and was attended by around 15 – 20 participants, including graduate students and faculty members. The aim was to help participants become familiar with R, a powerful tool for statistical analysis and research.

During the workshop, participants learned:

• The basics of using R and RStudio,
• How to run common statistical tests such as t-tests and ANOVAs,
• How to apply linear mixed-effects regression (lmer) models, especially in the field of psycholinguistics.

Employing a bilingual format (English and Persian), the workshop was designed to be accessible and engaging for a diverse audience. The integration of theoretical explanations with hands-on coding tasks enabled participants to apply and reinforce the concepts presented, promoting effective learning.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for students and researchers to learn how R can be used as a modern alternative to tools like SPSS, and to strengthen their data analysis skills for research.

The workshop was organized by Dr. Hamideh Marefat, who provided support throughout the planning and execution phases and participated as a faculty member to ensure the smooth running of the event.
